Assistant Controller

We're seeking an Assistant Controller to join our corporate team in Wilmington, NC. 

The Assistant Controller supervises a small accounting team in Wilmington, NC and acts as a key resource to our internal and external clients across the country and around the globe. The Assistant Controller will support our Commercial, Federal, and ICT Construction initiatives and is responsible for accounting operations across multiple business/joint venture entities. The Assistant Controller provides leadership to the accounting team and will contribute to the long-term success of our company.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounting operations including Billing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Job Costing, Payroll, Journal Entries and Revenue Recognition
  • Assist in preparation of financial statements: P&L, Balance Sheet, manage month/QTR/Year close, working with the company to achieve closing timelines & deliverables, including, bank reconciliations, monthly account analysis to identify and address booking issues, inaccuracies, or imbalances
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances
  • Prepare internal monthly financial statements
  • Coordinate the preparation of financial statements with outside CPA firm &, support year-end close process
  • Assist in various audits including workers compensation, general liability, & various project-based audits
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Ad hoc reporting including cash flow report for CFO & Company President
  • Additional Controller duties as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business-related field
  • 2 or more years’ experience in accounting, job cost experience preferred
  • 2 or more years’ experience working with the construction or general contracting industry
  • Knowledge of AIA billing standards, Work In Progress and sales tax processing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint required
  • Proficient in using various accounting software, experience with Sage 100 preferred
  • Experience in working with DOD, military or government entities is preferred
  • Prior managerial experience preferred, but not required
