Director of Interior Design

About Brawley:

Brawley is a design, build and furnish provider managing facility projects since 1992. From the headquarters in Wilmington, NC, our company has worked throughout the United States in the military, senior living, commercial, hospitality and ICT sectors.


This position reports to the Executive Vice President for the Federal Division. The Director of Interior Design inspires and leads the Interior Design team for FF&E, new construction and renovation projects for the military and government sector worldwide and as needed, on the commercial side.

This position also works closely with the Executive VP of Federal to develop business with new clients while maintaining and furthering relationships with existing clients.

This person is highly motivated to grow the FF&E business and develop the FF&E team into a dynamic group within Brawley.


  • Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills with experience developing and managing interior designers.
  • Leads the conceptual phase of certain high-profile projects and oversees the final results through coaching when necessary.
  • Assigns design work and ensures milestones, schedules and budgets are met.
  • Develops growth plan for each direct report, appraises performance and addresses any concerns constructively.
  • Develops and maintains a proposal forecast in Salesforce which captures probable opportunities.   
  • Identifies potential new FF&E business and develops the strategies and steps needed to bring about new contracts.
  • Represents WB Brawley at the highest level to clients, peers, and business associates.
  • Oversees development of presentations, scopes of work and estimates, as needed. 
  • Works in a manner that develops respect, accountability, and commitment to profitability.
  • Makes recommendations for development or improvement of processes.
  • Conducts and leads onsite reviews, surveys and meetings with stakeholders.
  • Cultivates the values and culture of WBB within the organization.
  • Maintains an active, high-profile presence in professional and community organizations.

Key Skills/Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the interior design field including the hospitality design industry.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in working with the Department of Defense, Department of State or similar Federal entities required 
  • Some experience with military hospitality is preferred.
  • Light to moderate travel to job sites and customer locations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of renovation processes and trades.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and resources.
  • Expert written and verbal communications skills, strong presentation skills.
  • Strong project management skills and sales orientation
  • Works in a manner that develops respect, accountability, and commitment to profitability.
  • Communicates effectively with employees, clients, vendors and subcontractors. 
  • Works in an atmosphere of integrity and unquestioned ethics.
  • Knowledge of FF&E specification software (SPEXX and EXPEDITE)
  • Proficient in using MS Office and other software (SAGE, P6, AutoCAD, Adobe)

Education and Professional Certification

  • 4-year degree from an accredited interior design program
  • NCIDQ certificate required
